How to register

  1. Go to CDTFA Online Services. CDTFA says registration there is free.
  2. Choose the registration that fits: a seller's permit if you're in California, or a Certificate of Registration–Use Tax if you're out of state and engaged in business here.
  3. Have your business details ready: entity info, owners/officers, business address, and start date of California sales.
  4. After registering, note your filing frequency and return due dates as CDTFA assigns them.
